Considering the linguistic aspects of translation, R.Jakobson (1959) distinguishes three kinds of translation: intralingual translation or rewording, interlingual translation or translation proper and intersemiotic translation or transmutation. ntralingual translation is “an interpretation of verbal signs by means of other signs of the same language”; Interlingual translation or translation proper, is “an interpretation of verbal signs by means of another language”. However, the author has not yet specified the position and function of intralingual translation in the process of interlingual translation defined as a cognitive process. Our paper contributes to clarify this problem.
