Anton Chekhov is one of the most renowned short story writers and playwrights of the 19th century not only in Russia but also worldwide. Through his works, readers gain a deeper understanding of Russian society in the late 19th century with countless fragments of social life. Chekhov’s stories are imbued with profound humanistic values that resonate deeply with readers, as they often find their own thoughts and emotions reflected in his narratives. His short story “A Father”, written in 1880, is one of his striking works with a unique portrayal of the father that challenges conventional ideas. This study focuses on analyzing the image of the father in this work, while also highlighting the pressing social issues prevalent in Russian society during the latter half of the 19th century.
