Abstract

This study investigates common learning strategies employed by B2-level (CEFR) Spanish-majored students at Hanoi University (HANU) to consolidate and expand their vocabulary knowledge. Through the collection and analysis of survey data, this study provides qualitative insights into students’ preferred strategies, vocabulary retention habits, and their beliefs and preferences regarding various vocabulary learning methods. It also analyzes the types of vocabulary exercises used in Spanish language practice courses, comparing them with the strategies most favored by students. On that basis, this paper proposes the development of vocabulary tasks that better align with the current preferences of Vietnamese learners of Spanish. This study can serve as a source of reference for research on vocabulary teaching methods and expand the literature on recent trends in vocabulary learning among Vietnamese students.
