Passive sentences are common in many languages around the world. The difference in the method of expressing passive sentences is due to the difference in type, the difference in expression is due to the linguistic habits of that nation. In the Korean language teaching program for foreigners, the problem of passive sentences and passive forms begins at the intermediate level, which partly shows the problem of Korean passive sentences even though it is a universal language problem but a relatively complicated matter.
This study approaches language and foreign language teaching, setting the goals of (1) reviewing passive sentences and passive expressions in Korean and Vietnamese; (2) considering how the passive issue is addressed in Korean textbooks for Vietnamese people; (3) describing the relationship between form and semantics when translating Korean passive sentences into Vietnamese and vice versa.
