Language learning strategies (LLSs) have received much attention from educators for over forty years. Though many studies relating to the question of strategies have been carried out all over the world, there are still gaps to be filled, especially in the area of strategies to learn speaking skill in the context of EFL learning. This article, therefore, aims to provide a systematic review of previous studies which focused on the use of strategies in learning to speak English as a foreign language conducted worldwide in order to investigate the current status and related research issues. Then, based on the results, some conclusions and suggestions for further studies are provided.
