LINGUISTIC FEATURES OF ABBREVIATIONS IN RUSSIAN MILITARY DISCOURSE

Abstract

In the military environment, abbreviations play an important role in ensuring the rapid and accurate transmission of information, enhancing communication efficiency and response speed in military situations. However, in many cases, Russian military abbreviations can cause difficulties for readers, including soldiers who are not professionally trained or inexperienced in a particular field. This is because abbreviations often possess unique characteristics in terms of structure, semantics, function, and style. In Russian military discourse, abbreviations belong to a specialized lexical category that continually develops and expands, particularly in the context of ongoing changes in both military and linguistics domains. This study systematically and comprehensively examines abbreviations in Russian military discourse to identify their structural, semantic, functional, and stylistic features. The current study serves as a foundation for further studies related to abbreviations used in other fields, contributing to the improvement of teaching and learning Russian military language at military schools.
