Abstract

This study investigates the characteristics of both Russian and Vietnamese verbal commands in terms of phonetics, vocabulary, grammar and communicative function with a view to providing learners with Russian military vocabulary. This study utilized multiple research methods and techniques, including surveys, descriptive and inferential analyses, comparison and contrast to explore verbal commands in the two languages. The samples include 185 verbal commands in Russian and 188 in Vietnamese, which were used in the ‘Sniper Frontier’ competition of the International Army Games 2021 in Vietnam. The results shed lights on some key characteristics of verbal commands in both languages from linguistics aspects and contribute to the teaching and learning of Russian military terminologies and to international military in the current period.
