CURRENT GUIDELINES AND POLICIES OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY AND VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT ON FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING AT UNIVERSITIES IN VIETNAM

Abstract

The article investigates the guidelines and policies of the Communist Party and Vietnamese government on education and training, particularly foreign language teaching and learning at universities in the country since Doi Moi. In the new context, successful foreign language teaching and learning at universities plays a crucial role in bridging the gaps between communities, social relations and business partnerships, as well as better absorbing the quintessence of culture, science and technology. The Party stresses that in order to succeed as a nation, it is of utmost importance that we establish unity and consensus throughout the entire system. In particular, educational institutions should update textbooks and teaching methods; improve lecturers’ competency; and motivate students for effective teaching and learning.
