Improving students’ research skills has been considered one of the most significant goals in tertiary education. For majors conducted in foreign languages rather than Vietnamese, especially for foreign languages majors, it is important to convey linguistic means used in scientific language style of each language to achieve this goal. The article introduces German grammatical means to express “objectivity” in scientific language style and explores the ability to use these structures of students at the German Department, Hanoi University through some graduation papers. The findings form a basis for ways to improve the Department’s students’ skills in research writing.
