AN INTRODUCTION TO CAUSAL RELATIONS IN VIETNAMESE

Abstract

The causal is such an important relation in any human activities. This relation has been investigating under different view points such as philosophy, psychology, linguistics. In linguistics, causal relation is studied from many angles like grammar, semantics, pragmatics and discourse. In Vietnamese linguistics, causal relation is mentioned in grammar, yet the causal as a semantic relation in lexical system has not been a subject of study. Thus, this article aims at: (1) reviewing causal relation study in general and in linguistics in particular; (2) generalizing expression mediums of causal relation in Vietnamese; (3) generalizing causal relation in Vietnamese lexical system.
