SOME THOUGHTS OF TEACHING VIETNAMESE VOCABULARY FOR FOREIGNERS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

Nowadays, the theory of second language acquisition has been widely applied in teaching foreign languages in China in particular and around the world in general. Teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language has witnessed fast development beyond Vietnam. Vocabulary plays a vital role in teaching foreign languages. Therefore, to improve the quality of training Vietnamese majors, Vietnamese vocabulary teaching needs to take into consideration not only characteristics of Vietnamese words but also the theory of second language acquisition.
The paper, based on the awareness of characteristics of Vietnamese vocabulary and Stenphen D. Krashen’s theory of second language acquisition, discusses some practical analyses of factors to be considered in teaching Vietnamese vocabulary to non-Vietnamese speakers.
