Abstract

Abbreviations, an important part of the Chinese vocabulary, are mainly formed by shorterning the components of complex language combinations. Abbreviations are frequently used in political reports at the National Congresses of the Chinese Communist Party with the repetition of some words. There are some difficulties in properly understanding and using abbreviations as they are formed by different methods. By analyzing 7 political reports at the National Congresses of the Chinese Communist Party, the authors have listed 522 abbreviations formed by using numbers (5.9%) and shortening combinations (4.1%).
