The paper provides findings of the survey on the application of Markedness model by Myers-Scotton’s language code-switching analysis to study English code-switching phenomenon in conversations by Vietnamese students of English. It is found that English code-switching appears to be predominantly widespread in English majors’ conversations in particular and in the youth and other social groups who know English in Vietnam in general. It is also revealed that from the perspective of pragmatics, marked code-switching is more popular because it makes it easier for speakers to express ideas and achieve certain communication strategies.
