CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR AND METONYMY: A STUDY OF SOME LINGUISTIC EXPRESSIONS IN VIETNAMESE AND ENGLISH

Abstract

Conceptual metaphor and metonymy are key areas of investigation in Cognitive linguistics. This study examines metaphorical and metonymic linguistic expressions in Vietnamese and English. To achieve this aim, it adopts a combination of research methods, including descriptive analysis, data analysis, and the metaphor identification procedure (MIP). Theoretically, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of language form and the relationship between linguistic form and meaning. Practically, it may serve as a reference for teaching and research in Linguistics and Literature.
